Healthy Workplace Tips for National Nutrition Month

Every March, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics launches National Nutrition Month, an annual campaign that promotes informed food choices and developing healthy eating and physical activity habits.

National Nutrition Month makes for the perfect time for business owners and managers that support employee well-being to promote healthy eating habits throughout their organization.

Here are a few ways to get started:

Host a snack tasting

Work with a team to prepare a tasty, healthy snack for all employees to try. This could be anything from smoothie samplings to a build-your-own trail mix station. Recipe cards can also be shared so that employees can make the snack at home.

Be sure to also include remote/hybrid employees in this initiative by sending food vouchers or even care packages.

Update meeting meals

Those hosting lunch meetings can encourage healthy eating by substituting foods like pizza and chips for healthier options such as fresh fruits and vegetables, soups, salads, and subs.

Bring in a professional

Partner with a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or similar resource to share healthy eating tips with employees.

Start a nutrition challenge

Work with Human Resources to start a nutrition challenge with prizes. Employees can record days where they made a healthy food choice, or kept hydrated, on paper or within an app. Create a recipe for success by providing employees with the necessary resources, such as healthy food and drinks, and positive reinforcement.
